So Far, So Good!
By Tim Loomis

For February our Vice-President, Kathy Powers, organized the Confab with great success. She couldn't sit still with that success and repeated her amazing performance at the Quail Hollow Ranch event in March. Kathy, with fellow members Tom Hogye (conducting Fly Fishing 101 for the Nymphs), Walt Robinson (performing miraculous cures with his fly rod) and Elaine Cook (with her posse of fly tiers) all demonstrated to the public their passion for our sport of fly fishing. These Club Members performed their duty "to promote, educate and enjoy the sport of fly fishing" with such success that we are now looking at eight potential new members. The Club owes thanks to all who contributed to that day.
I had a chance to sit in on Tom Hogye's presentation (Fly Fishing 101) to the eight curious new people. Tom had them spellbound from start to finish. As a former schoolteacher I can recognize an adept teacher when I hear and see one. Even the younger kids with shorter attention spans stayed immersed in Tom's world as Tom meticulously went over all the pieces of equipment, their cost and where to get them, what type of fishing can be found in our immediate area and the magic of catching and releasing back into the wild one's first fish caught with a fly rod.
What a great appreciation and feeling of pride I had in our Club after observing the contagious excitement our volunteers exhibited to those curious citizens who ventured up to Quail Hollow Ranch that Sunday! Pass it forward, and the reward will be that our sport and love of it will continue in capable hands to the next generation.
Now to tie some last minute flies for Pyramid and start thinking...Fish On!
