We've had requests to do this class again; it's been a few years since we did this basic fly box essential. The focus of the class will be not just on the pattern, which is easy and in every basic fly tying book, but on the techniques of blending dubbing from scratch and on dubbing loops. There is no sign up list, just come. But if you do come, bring some sort of dubbing loop spinning tool, even if it's just a paper clip with a 1/4 inch hook bend at one end. Please do not bring 8/0 thread (unless it is GSP); it will break when we twist loops and you will be frustrated. Bring 6/0 thread in tan, brown or even black. Bring vise, tools and light; a few setups are available for beginners.
For EXTRA CREDIT, bring GSP (Gel Spun Polymer) thread It is fine, very strong and can transform your fly tying in certain applications, where low bulk or high strength is desired. The most commonly available brand of GSP is "Roman Moser Power Silk." Try the 6/0 or the 8/0 in brown or grey. You can get it from www.flytyingchronicles.com in Petaluma, CA or from The Angler's Supply House in Williamsport, PA (800-326-6612 or www.anglerssupplyhouse.com). Angler's Workshop in Woodland, WA (800-278-1069, www.anglersworkshop.com) calls it "GSP Thread," they sell 7# strength spools, order code "GSPT." (Please use a bobbin with a ceramic tube with GSO: it is so hard, it will soon cut a groove in a regular metal bobbin tube.)
There will be a SPECIAL DOOR PRIZE for folks who show up with some kind of GSP thread in any color, I'm on a mission to add some new zest to your fly tying!
