Urban Stream Watch Season
by Dougald Scott

Volunteers are needed for the 2006 Urban Stream Watch Season, from June to October. Teams monitor water flowing from storm drain outfalls in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Capitola. The obligation is approximately 4-8 hours a month, from June to October. Field kits and meters are used to analyze and sample water in the field for common pollutants such detergents, chlorine, copper, orthophosphate and ammonia-nitrogen. Lab samples are collected for bacteria. No experience is necessary.

A training session will be held for Monterey and Pacific Grove volunteers, Saturday, June 3rd, 2006, from 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM, at the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Office, 299 Foam St., Monterey, CA 93940.

A training session for Capitola volunteers will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006, from 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Capitola City Hall, in the Community Meeting Room at 420 Capitola Ave., Capitola, CA 95010.
