Assorted Musings
By Tim Loomis

Wow, what a fantastic month of flyfishing! Tom Donovan's 5 Dot Ranch fishout was a real challenging start to the still water fishing for this summer. The lake gave up some big fish to the members who braved the winds. Even Club Treasurer Norm Bedell in his float tube, paddled and kicked across the width of the lake. Me, I just kind of patrolled the shoreline to the right and left of our campground. Members who had fished 5 Dot Ranch's lake in the past felt that the fish were fewer and smaller. But those of us who were new to the lake, left with visions of rainbows up to 5 lbs. that did their best to straighten out our flyÕs hook. What a enticing segue to next week's Lake Almanor's hex hatch! In the time since I left 5 Dot I have been reliving the pulls and leaps of the big trout I caught there, wondering if this year's Almanor will be as exciting. Our time using the Soquel Grange as our meeting hall has come to an end. Please read the notice on the front page that gives directions to the new meeting site, the Aptos Grange, where our September meeting will be held. The August meeting is our last hurrah at the Soquel Grange so please bring old photos of the place to share with other members as a salute to the old building.
