If you are considering volunteering for a position on the board of the Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen (and we certainly hope that you are!), and are unclear on what the different officers and/or board members' duties are, here is a brief description of them. Please contact any one of the present officers or board members if you have any questions. We definitely need your help, and would welcome anyone's willingness to take a position or to help as an assistant.

President - Incumbent: Tim Loomis
Presides at all meetings of the Membership and the Board of Directors. Proposes the annual SCFF Budget. Collects all correspondence to the Club from the Club Post Office Box on a regular basis. Signs all correspondence from the Club. Ensures all recurring Club activities are planned and executed. Authorized to sign checks on the Club bank account. Writes the President's Message column for the Newsletter each month.

Vice President - Incumbent: Kathy Powers
Presides at meetings in the absence of the President. Performs duties of other Members of the Board of Directors as necessary. Conducts elections for awards and recognition of members. May be called upon to plan and execute the annual Confab and Quail Hollow Public Education Day events.

Secretary - Incumbent: Kent Hull
Maintains minutes of all business meetings of the Membership, the Board of Directors, and Committees formed by the Board. Maintains a copy of the Bylaws of the Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen. Exhibits these records and documents as requested by Members. Ensures that business meetings of the Membership and the Board of Directors are properly called. Provides information on past Board actions and policy declarations to assist current deliberations at Board Meetings.

Treasurer- Incumbent: Norm Bedell
Receives all Club monetary income and pays Club bills. Maintains records of monies received and disbursed. Executes the Annual Budget. Maintains the Club checking account and is the normal signer of Club account checks. Reports the Club's cash balance at each meeting of the Membership and the Board of Directors. Files the Club's annual tax returns. Renews the Club liability insurance policy. Pays the annual Club Post Office Box rent. Provides summary financial information to the President to support the annual budget proposal.

Club Fishmaster - Incumbent: Harry Petrakis
Maintains a schedule of Club fishouts. Encourages Club members to plan and lead fishouts. Provides information, advice and assistance to fishmasters in planning and executing fishouts. Ensures that a current Fishout Schedule column is submitted for each Newsletter. Ensures that timely Gearing Up articles are submitted to the Newsletter Editor for publication. Encourages fishmasters to submit timely Gone Fishing articles to the Newsletter Editor after each fishout. Ensures the Club Banner is made available to each fishmaster to display at the fishout.

Fly Tying Master - Incumbent: Elaine Cook
Organizes a fly tying class each month. When feasible, coordinates with the Club Fishmaster to teach the tying of patterns most appropriate for upcoming fishouts. Submits information for the monthly Fly Tying Class column in the Newsletter. Ensures that a draft Fly of the Month column is submitted to the Newsletter Editor. Maintains a store of fly tying equipment and materials to support classes. Prepares and submits a Club budget line to support annual replenishment of equipment and materials stores.

Casting Master - Incumbent: Walt Robinson
Acts as the Club expert in casting technique and instruction. Conducts classes and clinics as appropriate. The Casting Master's qualifications should include FFF credentials. In addition to this, the current Casting Master writes a monthly Casting About casting instruction column for the Newsletter.

Newsletter Editor - Incumbent: Kent Hull
Receives all copy for publication in the monthly Newsletter. Edits copy for spelling, grammar, appropriate readability and relevance of content. When feasible and appropriate to reader benefit, edits for factual accuracy. When necessary, edits for length to fit all material into a single Newsletter issue. By the middle of each month, emails a solicitation to all Club Members for Newsletter input and announces the deadline for submissions. Emails all columns and articles to the Newsletter Publisher within three days after the submission deadline.

Newsletter Publisher and Webmaster - Incumbent: Pat Steele
Except for certain hard-copy graphics, forwards all Newsletter input received, un-edited, to the Editor. Translates material received from the Editor into page layout and web page applications format. Returns material to the Editor for condensation when it won't fit into available space. Selects, formats and adds graphics where appropriate. Performs page layout for print and web editions of the Newsletter. Prepares print edition, has it printed, prints mailing labels, folds, labels, stamps and mails it. Uploads the web edition to the Club website.
Maintains the Club website. Updates pages and verifies currency and intactness of links as appropriate. Maintains archives as appropriate. Submits Internet Service Provider (ISP) billings to the Treasurer for payment. Ensures that website operations comply with ISP requirements.

Programs Coordinator - Incumbent: Tim Loomis
Plans, schedules and organizes speakers for each meeting. Responsive to membership requests for balance between presentations on fisheries and fishing opportunities, local , regional and exotic, and skills and techniques. Prepares the budget line plan for speakers as part of the annual budget proposal. Submits a schedule of monthly programs for publication in the Newsletter. Submits information for the monthly program for the Club Meeting column of the Newsletter. Introduces the program speaker at each Membership Meeting.

Conservation Chairman - Incumbent: Dougald Scott
Conservation column [Catchy Releases]. Represents the Club with fisheries and watershed conservation groups. Keeps Club Members informed on conservation issues. Forms an ad hoc Conservation Budget Committee to plan the Club's annual Conservation Budget for inclusion in the Annual Budget Proposal. Organizes Club Member and Club participation in conservation programs. Authorized to organize and implement Club conservation program initiatives.

Membership Coordinator - Incumbent: Lee Fitzsimmons
Runs the annual membership drive, accepts membership applications and deposits dues paid with the Treasurer, maintains a database of Members in good standing, and prepares and publishes the roster annually. Introduces new members at meetings, submits Membership Notes and Nymphs [new members] articles to the Newsletter Editor. The membership data base is also forwarded to the Newsletter Publisher, for generating the newsletter mailing labels.

Monthly Raffle Coordinator - Incumbent: Tom Donovan
Acquires prizes for the raffle immediately following the business portion of each Membership Meeting, using Club funds budgeted for the purpose. Displays the prizes to be raffled before each Membership Meeting. Sells raffle tickets at each Membership Meeting. Conducts the monthly raffle. Deposits raffle ticket sales proceeds each month with the Treasurer. Keeps track of ticket sales income and prize expenditures, and endeavors to keep ticket sales income above raffle prize expenditures while offering attractive raffle prizes.

Facilities Coordinator - Incumbent: Mike White
Opens, closes, ensures facility is left in the condition required. Arranges for beverages and snacks at Membership Meetings. Coordinates facility use with facility management.

Annual Raffle and Silent Auction Coordinator - Incumbent: John Steele
Knows every person and business in the western US who can be hit up for prizes for the Annual Raffle and Silent Auction. Reproduces copies of the PresidentŐs "Beg Letter" soliciting prizes, for the President's signature, and mails the signed letters. Accumulates donated merchandise, some of which appears prior to the "beg letter" mailing, as if by the force of his persuasive (or acquisitive) charm, for the Annual Raffle and Silent Auction. Decides which prizes will be auctioned and which will be raffled. Runs the annual Silent Auction. Enlists the President to draft a pro forma "thank you" letter to each prize donor, for the President's signature, and mails the signed letters. The Annual Raffle and Silent Auction provides the majority of SCFF's annual income.

Annual Benefit Coordinator - Incumbent: John Cook
Organizes publicity, facility, services, volunteers for food preparation and presentation, ticket sales, raffle ticket sales, collection and deposit of monies received and cleanup.

Past President - Incumbent: Joe Bigas
The most recent former President of SCFF.

Member At Large - Incumbents: Jim Hall, Paul Schroeder, Cecilia Stipes
Persons who have performed as Board Members in one or more of the positions listed above, who remain active on the Board. The Bylaws specify the maximum number of Board Members, which limits the number of persons who may serve as Members at Large.

New Club Member - Incumbent: Greg Foy
Has been a Member of SCFF for less than two years and wishes to serve on the Board of Directors in this capacity for a year.

Junior Member - vacant
A Member of SCFF who is a Middle or High School student and wishes to serve on the Board of Directors.
