Tales of fishing outings, all true!

Sept. 9-18, Katalla, Alaska
Five intrepid SCFF members headed to Katalla, Alaska to the Hidden Glen Camp, to fish for silver salmon. The group that went last year said that we could catch fish until we were too tired to catch any more. We were doubtful. The fish were there, and Dougald, Marcus, Harry, the Honorable Gary and I caught more fish in the ten to fourteen pound class than we could count. The food at the camp was excellent, the guides were great, and the bears added a special touch to the trip. We were told to expect rain every day, but after Katalla had had 29 days straight of inclement weather, we lucked out with only two more days of rain, then had 65+ degree weather for the rest of the time we were there. With a great group of fishers, fine fishing, delicious food and comfortable accommodations, I couldnŐt have asked for more. - John Steele

Williamson River, Oregon, August
We had a good fishing day with fish ranging from 16 to 20 inches with Lois taking one at 6 lbs and another at 14 lbs. We fished from the town of Chiloquin to the Highway 97 crossing with our guide, Marlon Rampy. He can be reached at www.flyfishoregon.com>. We used intermediate lines all day taking fish on small leech and woolly bugger patterns. The river had been running high and murky during much of the summer and started to lower and clear in August. More big fish had been moving up as the water levels changed and clarity improved. - Walt Robinson

Smith River, Montana
We spent 3 days fishing Montana's beautiful Smith River where we caught browns up to 21 inches. The limestone cliffs are truly beautiful and the river, easy to wade with deep pools running below the limestone walls proved very productive. It was hopper time and those big browns loved them!! - Ernie and Diane Kinzli

Local Beaches

This summer I have gone to the local beaches surf fishing with my fly rod 34 times, catching over 120 perch. I always wondered why people used the larger rods and only caught small perch. Saturday I found out why. This is one of, if not the largest, fish I have ever caught on a fly rod. Certainly the largest Striper! - Sam Bishop
