Tales of fishing outings, all true!

Aptos Creek - Jan. 31st

Kenette Roberts and I went up the creek, knowing that the big steelhead would probably not be there due to lack of significant rain. But she wanted to learn how to fish a stream, and we had a fair amount of action from little smolts. Kenette caught the big one of the day, which was seven inches. - Elaine Cook

Zihuatenejo, Mexico and Quepos, Costa Rica - Feb.12th

A Jack Cravalle caught before daylight last week in the harbor of Zihuatenejo. On a fly of course.
Yesterday on the Rio Frio on the northern border of Costa Rica, I caught a massive, leviathan tarpon, or as they call it here, a Sabalo. It was bigger than me and absolutely scary. Did not get it to the boat, but was on quite awhile, went airborne 4 or 5 times. What a thrill, but I don't think I really want something like that big, prehistoric monster too close to the boat anyway. - Sam Bishop

Great Exuma, Bahamas - Feb. 6th-13th

John and I had fair to middling luck this year with the bonefish. I peaked early, catching a six-pounder on the morning of the first day we fished, and John later caught one bigger than that. This year, it seemed the schooling fish were much spookier, due to over fishing by visitors fishing without guides, but experiencing the warm, tropical weather and gorgeous turquoise water is never a hardship! - Pat Steele
