Confab/Public Education Day, Feb. 10, 2007
by Betty Rentz

It was a dark and stormy day. But nevertheless, we had a pretty good turnout for our annual confab at the Quail Hollow Ranch facility. This year it was also combined with our annual public education day. About 25 folks braved the bad weather, tied some flies, had their casting problems straightened out, learned something about rod building, and ate a very good potluck lunch. We got four folks to join the club and also, a few club members who attended were very new to the club and so it was good to have them participate.
Special thanks go to Tim Loomis who filled in on an emergency basis for Tom Hogye and taught the "FlyFishing 101" class. Also to Walt Robinson, who donned his rain gear and manfully stayed outside in the rain and drizzle most of the day to help both new folks learn to cast and club members improve their casting. Also to Elaine Cook for organizing the fly tying instruction and the blind fly tying event; and to Harry Petrakis for some great work cleaning up after the event. Thanks also to Greg Foy and Kent Hull for handling the rod building instruction, and lastly, to Kathy Powers for her help and advice in getting the event going. - Betty Rentz
