Last month my article was supposed to be the first part of a two part series on choosing a guide. The latest issue of California Fly Fisher has an article titled "A Guide to Guides" by George Bisharat on page 46. The Bisharat article kind of stole my thunder. Knowing when an expert is in the house I will leave it up to the club members to read his article on choosing a guide and devote my article this month to having fun.
Having just returned from the well organized Pyramid Lake fishout (kudos to Jim Hall and Harry Petrakis) I can attest firsthand what it takes to have fun. From the time I first walked into our Crosby Lodge trailer I started having fun. Rooming with friends and the few new members all most always ensures that there will be hours of memorable events to recall with those same friends as you reassemble in future times.
Does this sound familiar..."Do you remember the time at Pyramid when we had that gale force wind and Phil took a spill off his ladder?" Of course it does. We all know of some friend who was quite the partier the night before and was having trouble adjusting to the morning elements that the next day threw at him. This all goes into the realm of having fun. I have a few of those gems to remember myself the next time I bunk with my pals.
Fish On!
