Wow, what a start to the summer season! Webber Lake has some toads. Just ask Betty Rentz, John Steele and Norm Bedell. They were able to land the brutes that often were seen leaping two to three times their length out of the water.
We had to pay the price to fish this lake by navigating through an early summer snow blizzard and enduring one really cold evening. Spirits were high in the morning after the freeze as the monsters could be seen giving us "The Fin" all around the lake.
Patterns that worked were callebatis nymphs, Rickard's Seal Buggers and still water nymphs. Betty used a sparse streamer pattern to land her giants. Weather cleared for the remaining days and all who attended agreed that Webber Lake was worth returning to next season.
As a bonus, the camp site revealed the answer to a oft posed question- "do bears s - -t in the woods ?" was attested to and certified as true by yours truly.
Have fun this summer and watch where you step. Fish on!
