Fished for shad on Sacramento and caught over 30 on my spey rod. Attached picture was "Pic of the Week" earning a 5% discount at Riverbum.
Sun, July 1 - Snake River, ID
Fished the South Fork of the Snake outside Idaho Falls. Did well but mostly small fish. Very, very crowded.
Mon Jul 2 - Wed, Jul 4 - Madison River, MT
Fished the Madison River in Montana. First day wading caught a couple of nice browns Czech nymphing. Floated the next 2 days with a few fish caught. Best fishing was from 9:30-10:30pm wading. Caught several nice rainbows and browns.
While floating the Madison, we just left the boat dock when I threw my salmon fly up near the bank. A huge cutthroat came up and made a swat at it. I set too early and pulled it away from the fish. Rather than go back down, the fish swam downstream looking for the salmon fly. I threw it at him again, and same thing. The fish came up to get it and I set again too quickly and pulled the fly out. To both my friends amazement and my, the fish went looking for the fly again. I made my last shot and the fish turned on it again and this time had it but it was too much of a mouthful and I missed the hookup again. This was the last chance because we floated off and didn't get another shot. - Larry Schork
Not sure if this is too late in the season, but back in Jan/Feb 07, Jim and I went to the Trinity River, from the encouragement of Tim Loomis, and by golly...with our guide Chris Kennedy from The Fly Shop, I caught my first ever steelhead on a fly rod. You can only imagine my excitement, so I am attaching a picture per Tim's suggestion. And yes, Jim, too caught a steelhead. - Lily King
