How To Take Your Own "Glory" Shots
by Pat Steele

How many times have you been fishing alone, and caught that epic fish, and had nobody there to record the event with a camera? You've got your hands full, with rod, net, fish, hemostats, everything is wet and slippery, and if you're particularly adept, you can manage a shot of the fish flailing around on the ground, but it's not as satisfying as having a photo of yourself, holding the fish.
I recently acquired a gadget that may be helpful in similar situations. It's called a "GorillaPod", and it's a tripod with a twist. Its legs are jointed, flexible, and can be twisted around tree limbs, small rocks, or other fixed objects. The total length of it, including the screw-on camera head, is only 6 1/2", and it weighs next to nothing, so it's not a huge thing to stow in your vest.
Using the GorillaPod, one can secure the camera on something aimed at the spot where you intend to be with your fish, set the timer on the camera, scoop up the fish and smile. Voila, a shot worthy of our annual slide show!
