Cream Floss Midge
by Elaine Cook

Are you packing for the Mammoth fishout? Hot Creek will test the best fisherman and usually requires small flies. This one worked particularly well the last time I fished there.

Hook:2487 sizes 14-16-18
Bead:Gold
Thread:Cream or tan 8/0 or 12/0
Rib:Fine gold wire
Body:Pale cream floss

1. Crimp barb.
2. Slip bead onto hook, small opening first.
3. Attach thread behind bead with 10-12 wraps.
4. Lay wire on top of shank butted up against thread.
5. Attach floss, wrap thread forward to behind bead.
6. Wrap floss forward creating a smooth tapered body, tie off, cut excess.
7. * Spiral wrap wire forward in about 6 wraps, with wraps closer together in rear and gradually getting farther apart.
* Make 3 wraps of wire right behind bead, twist to cut wire.
8. Make a few thread wraps to cover wire, whip finish, cut thread.
