Fly Fishing Redding
Speaker: Brian Bommarito "The Return of the Native"

It has been said that "you can't go home again". This month's guest speaker, Brian Bommarito, will have a chance to test that adage as Brian returns to his native soil of Monterey Bay to give us a presentation on fishing opportunities in the Redding area. A few years back Brian was Walt Robinson's assistant in helping our members adjust, define and refine their casting techniques.

Working for the navy out of Monterey, Brian would drive up to Redding on the weekends to work as a part time guide for the Fly Shop. After his retirement from the Navy, Brian was offered a full time guide position with the Fly Shop, so Brian moved his family up to the Redding area, leaving Walt short on assistants and our club at a loss for a valued friend. Hey, what's a few hundred miles between friends? That was to be the next phase in Brian's career.

Instead of losing a fishing friend, the club has gained a valued fly fishing guide in one of California's richest fishing grounds. A number of members have capitalized on Brian's expertise and availability as a guide for trips with family and friends. Personally speaking, I contract Brian for a yearly steelhead trip on the Trinity River along with club members Harry Petrakis, Troy Meyers, Jim Livingston and Duwayne Norton. Last year, Brian had just recovered from a horrific bout of stomach flu but still managed to drag his sorry behind up for one of the days to put us on some large chromers. If you are looking for one of Northern California's finest guides, be sure to attend October's meeting.
