Mt. Shasta Fishout - Oct. 26-28
Fishmaster: Bruce Dau

This year's Mt Shasta fishout was quite different than years past. First off, the weather was great. And the fishing looked to be promising; on my scouting trip on Friday afternoon, I managed to land a beautiful 15-inch rainbow, and have an even bigger one take a dry and come off!
But unlike past years, there was a scarcity of fishermen and women. The attendees were whittled down to just two, Larry Schork and his friend (and new member) Dean. Larry and Dean had some luck steelheading on the Trinity on Friday, where they hooked and landed several beauties. On the way to Mt Shasta their luck took a turn for the worse, when Dean realized that he had forgotten his sleeping bag back home. So they ended up in a motel in Mt Shasta. On Saturday, everybody's bad luck continued. On the stream at Sweetbrier, as I was showing Larry and Dean where to fish, I happened to glance down just as my new lab, Sammie, grabbed a wild mushroom for a snack. But "death caps" don't make good snacks, so it was off to the vet for me! Sammie was, and is, fine, but that was the end of my trip. Dean and Larry had a slow day on the river, so they decided to return to the trinity for a follow-up session on Sunday, where they recreated some steelhead magic.
