Krystal Bullet
recommended by Ken Hanley
Thanks to Sam Bishop, we are in need of a few flies to fish the surf. Here's one recommended by Ken Hanley, a real authority. It's very simple to tie.

| Red Version: | Green Version: | |
|---|---|---|
| Hook: | Mustad 36890 or TMC 7999 size 2-8 | same same size 6-8 |
| Thread: | Fluorescent Fire Orange 3/0 monocord | Fluorescent Green 3/0 monocord |
| Body: | Fluorescent red chenille large | Chartreuse chenille large |
| Tail, Hackle and Head: | Pearl Krystal Flash | Black Krystal Flash |
1. Crimp barb.
2. Apply thread mid-shank.
3. Select about 6 strands of Krystal Flash. Position on top of shank with ends extending to rear, equal to 1/2 shank length. Tie in place with 2-3 wraps. Bend forward strands backward and tie in place back to above hook point. Cut long Krystal Flash strands to length to tail.
4. Tie in chenille. Wrap thread forward to 1/3 back on shank. Wrap chenille forward in touching wraps. Tie off, cut excess.
5. Bundle about 40 strands of 2-inch long Krystal Flash. Position bundle so it surrounds hook shank, one end of bundle where thread hangs, other end extending forward of hook eye. Wrap in place up to hook eye.
6. Move thread back to chenille.
7. Push Krystal Flash backward, being sure it spreads around shank evenly.
8. Tie in place with 6-8 wraps.
9. Whip finish, cut thread, apply drop of Zap-A-Gap to thread wraps.
10. Cut hackled Krystal Flash so it ends at about mid-tail.
Simple, right?
