Annual SCFF ConFab

Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 - 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Santa Cruz Gardens Elementary School Multi-Use Room - 8005 Winkle Ave., Santa Cruz

NOTE: This event takes the place of our usually scheduled club meeting.
There will be NO CLUB MEETING February 6th!

Come one, come all! Join us at the club's annual ConFab: a gathering for the purpose of camaraderie, fly tying (including a blind fly tying contest), fly casting practice and instruction (including a fly casting contest with a 6-weight or smaller rod size limit), eating (potluck), knot tying, tall tales, etc. We hope everyone will show up for at least part of the day and join in on the activities and meet and greet your fellow club members. It's a great time to put names with faces and share our common love of fly fishing.

What to bring: Bring your fly tying gear, (Elaine Cook will be supplying materials for tying a Spotlight Mayfly she will be teaching) rods and lines, a folding lawn chair (the only furniture the Multi-Purpose Building has is cafeteria tables and benches), good stories, and some food to share.

Potluck (IMPORTANT INFORMATION): The potluck will present an interesting challenge this year, since this facility has no kitchen. No ovens, no refrigerators, no sink, except a small one in the bathroom. So, if you are bringing something that needs to be heated, bring it in your own crockpot (there are a few electrical outlets where such equipment can be plugged in). Please, no charcoal or barbecues or propane stones (unless you can operate your propane stove on your tailgate out near your vehicle in the parking lot). The club will provide paper plates, plastic utensils, napkins, and cups. We'll have the coffee urns going and we will also provide soft drinks.

Clean Up: We need to be out of the building no later than 5:00 PM. Clean up will start at 4:00 PM. Anyone who can stay and help with this would be appreciated. We must leave the building as we found it (tables wiped off, trash hauled away in garbage bags that we supply, and floors swept).

Directions: If you are driving from Santa Cruz, head east on Soquel Drive. Just past Dominican Hospital there is a stop light at Thurber Lane. Turn left onto Thurber Lane, drive a little over one mile and turn left onto Winkle Ave. The school (and parking lot) is 100 yards ahead. The Multi-Use building is in plain sight, just to the left of the school fence/gate. If driving from the Aptos area, turn right onto Thurber Lane from Soquel Dr.
