Another Season Kicks Off
by Tim Loomis

Well, the big fish season got under way with a resounding boom. I fully expect to be reading the many tales of big fish landed in the upcoming May newsletter. A good number of members were at Pyramid lake in Nevada fishing for the 10 pound plus Lahonton cutthroats and the stories I plan on reading should have accounts of their success. So many members landed fish over the 10-pound mark that we should dedicate a slide show just for them. Now, being the honest reteller of fish stories that I am.....I have to admit here that I was not one of those lucky individuals. My largest fish probably pushed the 6-pound mark if that. But, nevertheless, I still have the big fish "bug".

A week from today is the trout opener and not much past that are those hollowed days when the hexagenia hatch goes off up at lake Almanor. With Lincoln Gray getting us all psyched out of our winter doldrums. I will be a drooling, anxious blob until I can get my float tube in the Lake Almanor waters. It's no secret that the past four years haven't been kind to my big fish aspirations, but this year, I promise you that it's all going to change.

For the saltwater anglers, the offshore rockfish season opens May 1st so be prepared.

Be sure that you have a 2008 state of California fishing license and any stamps that you need to add before setting out next weekend. Crimp your barbs down as flat as possible and then even some more. If you are fishing still waters be sure to wear your PFD. Take some time to go over all your gear and restock what has been worn out.

Be safe, catch fish, release fish and have fun. Fish On!
