| Legs: | Barred hen or partridge hackle-gray (Note: worms don't have legs, but the feather gives the fly movement and helps attract fish. |

1. Crimp barb.
2. Attach thread behind hook eye, wrap to just beyond shank (above hook barb is rear of shank).
3. Cut body material at an angle; tie in tip snugly, wrap thread to 2 eye lengths behind eye.
4. Wrap body material forward in touching wraps pulling on material. Pull more at rear and legs as you wrap forward creating a slightly tapered body, tie off snugly; cut excess, advance thread to behind hook eye.
5. Select hackle feather whose barbs are length of hook. Holding barbs at tip of feather, stroke other barbs backward, lay feather on top of shank so that dark side faces upward, tip forward and stem where barbs separate are where bobbin hangs. Tie in place, make 2 wraps of hackle around shank; tie off; cut excess. Cut off tip of feather. Stroke barbs to rear, wrap thread backward to hold in place, make half hitch. Cut barbs off lower side of shank.
6. Dub a head covering about 2 eye lengths of shank. Tie off behind eye. Cut thread.
