Great Kickoff to 2009
By Sam Bishop

Wow, what a way to start off 2009! Two absolutely great events, our fund raiser in January and our Confab in February were super times. Troy Mayers, assisted by Steve Rudzinski organized a detailed agenda. He really did have a "free lunch" (BBQ Chef Kirk Mathew) and about 75 people turned out. I believe it was the largest, most involved attendance I have ever seen. Walt and Elaine for example, never had a moment's rest with the casting and fly tying. The swap meet was BIG, with BIG bargains. Even Ernie and Diane Kinzli showed up with leftover flies from the shop at only a buck apiece. True to his word, Troy made a real casting pond, too. Harry Petrakis held court with knots that will not let loose. Rich Rubin expertly showed us why he is excited about using a Spey Rod. Too many people assisted to mention them all.

My 8 year old grandson Sam, showed us how to use a 13 foot Spey Rod, always watching his back casts and with perfect delivery. He came home excited and made sure I knew he wants to be a member. You will see him at future meetings, so bring your kids and grandkids too.

Congratulations to Kathy Powers, winner of the casting contest and Kasey Mathew, winner of the blind fly tying contest.

Sharp hooks, tight lines, great adventures.
