March Surf Fishout
by Sam Bishop

Greg Foy, Elaine Cook, Bob Shatsky, Mike Koslosky, Bob Stevens, George Sabas and Sam Bishop all gave it their best on the March surf fishout, but all they caught was a good time in what appeared to be perfect conditions on Palm Beach.

Pyramid Lake 2009
by John Steele

The club descended on Pyramid Lake on Sunday, March 8th. Jim Hall, Marcus and Dean Lavenson, and the Honorable Gary Hazelton were there at the crack of dawn and got a few fish, but the water was very cold and the fish were slow to bite. The rest of us got to the lake later on, and were skunked for our efforts.
The next day we awoke to 16-degree weather and six inches of snow. Very cold, the water would freeze in the guides of our rods, and crystallize on the line next to my stripping finger. Jim got an 8-pounder, and Gary got an 11-pounder, the biggest of the trip, so bad weather seems to bring in the big fish.
The rest of the week was slow at Pelican and the Nets, but some fish were caught from float tubes down at Lone Tree. John, Elaine, Norm, and Chris Walters all caught some fish each day, ranging from 3-4 pounds to over 10. The weather never got warm and the water and fish stayed cold. Those who fished Lone Tree got lots of fish, but no really big ones.
The food was great, as usual. Harry's trailer had homemade linguine and clam sauce one night, and we had our traditional duck, pheasant, and abalone dinners, so we ate very well. Marcus entertained his trailer mates with his guitar, hosting a karaoke session (sorry I missed that!), and all had a great week out.
The die-hards are going back in two weeks for another try, and hopefully, the weather and temperatures will cooperate. The Nets never did produce much and are closed now. Maybe the fish will be in the shallows again, and be aggressive, but then that's fishing!
