Gone Surf Fishing
by Sam Bishop

As it turned out, on April 4 at 7:00 PM, the tide was too high and the surf too strong at Manresa to be successful, but seven of us tried anyway. Rich Hughett, Rocky Rockwell, Pat Marshall, Dennis McVey, Mike McGuire, Elaine Cook and Sam Bishop did their best. We resolved to do better at Rio Del Mar next month!

Owens River Fishout - April 12th - 19th
Fishmaster: Elaine Cook

Spring in the Eastern Sierra's held true to form; weather!, weather!, weather! The wind blew from the north, east, south and west, rocking us to sleep in our RV's, pelted us with clouds of dust, and forced us to use special line control to catch the feisty, beautiful trout. Yes, fishing was very good everywhere we went. Kathy Powers couldn't do anything wrong on Hot Creek. John Cook and Doug Severin had what Doug called the best fishing he has ever had in the Gorge. Betty Rentz's "bobbercating" in Pleasant Valley Reservoir was very productive as she and others cooked in 85 degree temperatures. Andrew Feldman and Shan Crocket, who are new to fly fishing, successfully learned to catch fish in the upper Owens, lower Owens, and Pleasant Valley Reservoir. Their patience and interest were tested significantly! Amazing how a newbie can be "brainwashed" into believing that "wind is our friend" when it comes to fly fishing. Did I forget to mention the 26 degrees with snow flurries, and, oh yes, the WIND!
