Bass Behavior During the Spawn
Excerpted from an article by Kirk Deeter
, who has studied bass behavior from a scuba diving perspective.

1. Bass become nervous and will leave their beds if their escape route gets blocked.
2. Male bass protect the bed, while the female hangs out nearby. The male usually positions himself so he looks directly at the female.
3. The female is the larger of the species, is smarter, and will stop feeding after being caught. The male can be easily caught two or three times before he gets wise.
4. Bigger bass spawn early (late March - early April) and late ( mid to late May). They also will choose deeper beds if the water is clear.
5. Bass are more apt to spawn around the full moon.
