Quail Hollow Public Education Day - Family Fly Fishing Day
by Vice President Troy Mayers

What a great day at the Park! There were over fifty fly casters in attendance. It was a real mixed creel of our community; members, volunteers, kids, parents, and grandparents-we had it all. Our resident President Sam Bishop's eyes, ears and hands were on everything.
Arriving early for set up were Andrew Feldman, Steve Rudzinski , Barry Burt and Mike DiCiano. They set up everything from the chairs and tables for class sessions to rigging all the rods and reels for the casting clinics.
Once again our professors were back. Tim Loomis was talking up a storm in Fly Fishing 101. Elaine Cook was hostess of the Fly Tying "Den ". Mike Koslosky held forth with his art and insect identification program for juniors. Of course, Walt "Silky Smooth" Robinson was leading our casting instruction. At one point, we had twenty casters with rods in their hands.
Chef Eric Schafer did it again, holding the event together from behind the "Free Lunch Grill" A special thanks goes out to our club members and the Prez , who jumped in to help out.
It has been a special event for me organize for a couple of years. Quail Hollow is one of our great Santa Cruz County Parks. Our club is fortunate to help with their education program. Our parks, like our fish may disappear before we realize it. Go enjoy and support them!
It has been rewarding watching members share their skills and enthusiasm for the sport and lifestyle that we all enjoy so much. It has been a pleasure to enhance an old-time club event and tradition. What a blast it is to teach the young kids and public at the event. It's even more fun to cast and hang out with the members of our club. After all, it is a club event, complete with a free lunch, so show up, would ya!
May Surf Fishout at Palm Beach
by Sam Bishop
Nice turnout again on June 6, with about 13 members fishing Palm Beach. As always someone new joins us and we appreciate that. Fishing was great, catching was not. I managed to hook three, but that was not universally enjoyed. Attendees included: Elaine Cooke, Rich Hughett, Jim Hall, Mike McGuire, Pat Marshall, Kirk and Kasey Mathew, Gary Hazelton, Michael DiCiano, Terry Short, Dave Lehrian and someone else who did not sign in.
Bourdet Ranch Bass Fishouts, June 6 and 13
Fishmaster: Cecilia Stipes
Two consecutive weekend bass trips, June 6th and 13th, were enjoyed by a dozen club members at the Bourdet Ranch. Seven-year-old Colette Bradley caught her first fish on the fly while dad, Tom, coached her through the process. New to fly fishing for bass, Keith Munger, caught a 6-lb bass on a popper. Elaine Cook was elated at catching the largest bass she has ever caught. Bill Seaman and Victor Inouye recorded these great catches with their cameras.
