Jim Basye
7/23/48 - 5/23/09

The Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen recently lost one of its more active members, Jim Basye. He was a past president of the club, serving two terms in 1988 and 1989, and a past programs director. He also contributed a lot of his time to conservation issues, writing letters and e-mails to our government representatives. He worked at Upstream Fly Fishing in Los Gatos for several years as well.
Jim was born in San Francisco in 1948 and grew up on the peninsula, in Burlingame. He moved to San Lorenzo Valley in 1964, and in 1978, to Santa Cruz, where he met his wife, Sharon.
Besides fishing and fly tying, his interests included painting, drawing, music and nature. He was an avid reader, and participated in local issues for the city and the schools.
He will be missed by his family and his many friends, and those of us who knew him and were counted among his friends are the lesser upon his passing.
His family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that a donation to Trout Unlimited be made in his name. Please send donations to:
Trout Unlimited

A celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, June 20th, at 11:00 AM, at Christ Lutheran Church, 10707 Soquel Dr., Aptos.

Bob Eddy
100 Years

Bob Eddy passed away June 9th. He was 100 years old. He was a native of Cleveland, and attended the University of Rochester School of Art. He was a lifetime member of the Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen, and lent his considerable talents to the club, most notably, donated several of his paintings to the club's annual silent auction.
He was an avid fly fisherman, had articles published in Field and Stream, and tied custom flies for celebrities, including former President Jimmy Carter.
He was a noted local artist. He painted the Mexican History mural on East Lake Drive in 1992. He was also awarded the Artist of the Year in 2004 by the Ageless Art program.
He is survived by daughters Merilee Eddy, Christine Eddy Taylor, and Kathleen Tresch; stepdaughters Laura Soulages Maslov, and Sharon Stugen; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Eddy was a quiet, gentlemanly sort who gave generously of his time and talent to the club when he was active, and those of us who were fortunate to have known him remember him fondly.
There are no services planned. His ashes will be scattered at sea.
