My congratulations and applause to our Vice President Troy Mayers on the outstanding credit he is bringing to our community. The movie "Rivers of the Lost Coast" he put on at the Rio Theatre had a very large attendance, indicating there is lots of interest in conservation and fly fishing. He spotlighted our club, gave us a free table and made us look great. Many people asked us questions and I am sure we recruited a few more members.
Our banner with the "Catch and Release" logo went over well too, as I am sure many people were not aware of that policy. One lady commented politely about us hurting the fish and felt a tiny bit better that we fly fishermen de-barb the hooks. Even Lois Robbins, a member of the California Fish and Game Commission, (dental hygiene patient of Kathy Powers, too) was there and talked with me at some length. She does not fish herself and I got the impression she might be more on the side of the previous lady. She is very active in local river conservation issues, so I felt good that we were able to make a case and she listened.
Also since the last meeting we formed a new Conservation Committee consisting of Jim Tolonen, Chairman, plus Dennis McVey, Barry Burt and Michael DiCiano. They have already met twice and submitted choices for our charitable contributions. But Jim will tell you more in his reports.
Thanks to Steve Rudzinski for volunteering to be our Facilities Chairman. The position has been vacant a long time and it will be a pleasure to have him coordinating and assisting the speakers and setup/teardown of our meetings.
Our July 1 meeting will be a mini-film festival hosted by Troy. It will be fun, so come and bring the family! Enough talking. Let's go fishing!
