Bourdet Ranch - Saturday, Aug 1st
Fishmaster: Cecilia Stipes

The attendees were Sam Bishop, Jason Fong, Keith Munger, Richard and Cecilia Stipes.
It was a perfect-weather day. We arrived early, before 8 AM. Sam was the first to the water catching a nice 14" bass fishing from shore. By 9 AM, Keith Munger was at the far end of the lower pond where it is well-known to hold the large bass. He repeated the success he had from his first trip to Bourdet on June 13th by catching several very large bass, sizes that filled his lap, the largest weighing approx 9 lbs. He joked he needed 9-inch forceps to retrieve his poppers from the bellies of his large fish. He used a green frog imitation that he popped across the surface with quick, hard jerks, which made loud popping sounds. I am convinced the deep concave mouth of the popper created that rich, loud sound that attracted the bass. Keith was successful with an identical black frog when the green one stopped working its magic. Jason had no trouble catching bass all day. The pan fish were caught in great numbers by everyone. For the wildlife report: wild boar, deer, flock of geese and a coyote leisurely walked nearby undisturbed by our presence.

August Surf Fishout
by Fishmaster Sam Bishop

Kelp in big pieces and kelp in little pieces were everywhere as we started our monthly fishout August 8. But the fish were there and most everyone that persevered caught some, including the nattily attired Mark Lavenson , who caught a Jack Smelt. (He chose to arrive barefoot, in red shorts and a Tee shirt. Tough guy!
This was another "first" for our surf fish outs. Charter Members, Ernie and Diane Kinzli were there as well as Jim Hall. Nice to see the "old timers" that started our club, on the beach! (Of course I am older than both of them, but not an old timer).
Others not mentioned nor pictured, were Pat Marshall, Rocky Rockwell, and Luke Sing, a new member to us and a long time member of the San Jose Fly Casters.

his perch look as big as Kirk's.
