Miscellaneous Thoughts
by President Sam Bishop

Gone fishing: Well, I am sure sorry to not be at the meeting Wednesday, but I will be arriving at King Salmon, AK about the time the meeting starts. For the next 10 days we'll be fishing the Alagnak River, Katmai Wilderness area. But, more about that when I get back.

Shopping local: When I visited the Angler's Choice on 41st Ave the other day, I was reminded again how nice it is to buy local. Mark and Julia Dingler are great folks, members of our Club and they make us feel really special. Contrary to conventional wisdom, I don't think you always save money shopping off the web or at a "big box". For example, I bought two items including an excellent waterproof fly box that I had priced in Manteca at the giant Bass ProShops store. The price was the same, but at Angler's Choice, I received a discount, because I am a member of the Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen. They have fly tying material there too, not as extensive as Ernie's, but they carry the most used items and can provide the Pencil Poppers and Krocodiles to use when none of the Club Members are around to see you.

New television fishing series coming up on ESPN2 in January: Lefty Kreh, Tom Brokaw, Michael Keaton, etc. Click here for a preview, it is good. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVVA9yT07G0.

Fund raising: Our annual fund raiser is coming up January 23rd. I predict it will be a sell out especially if we have more valuable prizes. Many of you have personal relationships with guides, manufacturers, shops, outfitters or lodges. If you would be willing to make a call or have a letter sent in your name requesting a donation, please contact John or Pat Steele (476-0648) or me.
