Buzz Hackle

Here's a great dry fly attractor pattern for the Sierras. As a matter of fact, it can also be a wet fly by tying it on a heavier wet fly hook.

| Hook: | TMC 100 sizes 10 - 16 |
| Thread: | Black 8/0 for smaller flies, 6/0 for larger flies |
| Tail: | Red hackle barbs |
| Aft Hackle: | Grizzly |
| Tag: | Silver Tinsel |
| Body: | Peacock herl |
| Fore Hackle: | Brown |
| Fore Body: | Gold Tinsel |
1. Crimp barb.
2. Attach thread mid shank.
3. Select 10 - 15 stiff, non webby hackle barbs for tail. Line up tips then cut from stem. Lay on top of shank, tops to rear one shank
length beyond shank. Tie in place to rear of shank.
4. Select hackle feather whose barbs equal 1 and 1/2 hook gap. Prepare base of stem by removing any fuzz, then cut 4 - 5 barbs short on each side of stem. Tie in prepared end at rear of shank with dull side toward you.
5. Tie in piece of tinsel at rear of shank so that when wrapped forward the silver side will show. Wrap thread forward 1/4 of shank. Wrap tinsel forward, tie off, cut excess. Wrap hackle forward in touching wraps, tie off, cut excess.
6. Tie in 2 - 3 tips of herl. Make dubbing loop of thread with herl. Wrap thread forward 3 hook eyes behind hook eye. Twist dubbing loop to make peacock chenille. Wrap forward making full body. Tie off, cut excess.
7. Repeat step #4, selecting hackle with barbs equal to 1 hook gap.
8. Repeat step # 5, wrapping to one hook eye behind eye.
9. Wrap thread head, whip finish, cut thread.
