Buy Now or You Might Miss Out!
by President Sam Bishop

Our annual fundraiser on January 23 could easily be a sell out. Our club is larger than ever before so there are more to join those of us who never miss it. Please tell your friends, and get them some tickets early. I would not rely on the ability to buy tickets at the door. As always, there will be incredible raffle prizes plus some super silent auction items. This year for the first time, we have a dandy package from the Montana Trout Lodge.
By the way, remember BYOB. Bring your own beer, wine or liquor. We'll have the glasses, ice, Coke, 7 Up, etc.

I know that someone out there is seriously contemplating taking the position of Secretary of our Club for 2010, especially knowing how important it is to us. Please give me a call or drop a note.

Often I am asked when the best time is for surf fishing. I am not being facetious when I tell you that anytime is the best time. Winter months can be as good as any for perch, and the winter perch seem to me to average a bit larger. Of course it is winter, and you may not be able to fish safely because of storms, or high swells. If the swells and waves breaking are too big, try a mile or two away. For example, one day in late December, the waves were breaking too high and the slope of the beach at Rio del Mar State Beach made fishing ineffective. An 80 - 100 foot cast was not enough. So I drove back to Rio Del Mar village and fished between the mouth of Aptos Creek and the cement ship with good success.
