We welcome Lance Gray as our first guest speaker of the 2010 lecture series. Lance has been an avid fly tier since his teens with his brother Lincoln Gray. Lincoln hosted a "How to Fish Lake Almanor" workshop at Lake Almanor for our club a few years back. Now it's Lance's turn to spread the joys of fly fishing to various clubs throughout California. Lance and his wife own and operate a guide service called Lance Gray and Company, located in Willows, CA. Lance specializes in fishing the Feather River for wild steelhead with both conventional fly rod and reel and recently has added the switch rod method to his repertoire. A few of our members attended Lance's steehead clinics this fall.
We can expect to have Lance expound on the nuances of fly fishing on the Feather as the Feather River has in recent years experienced a recovery in the amount of steelhead migrating up its system. It wasn't that long ago that many of the Delta's decline as a major salmon breeding ground. We will listen to Lance as he cheers on the once mighty steelhead as the species attempts a comeback on one of the state's leading salmon and steelhead rivers.
If you are an optimist (isn't that part of the definition of a fly fisherman?) and you pine for the old days on the Feather, be sure to attend our March meeting for Lance Gray's presentation.
* PLEASE NOTE: Please do not congregate near the entrance of the Grange hall, nor in the parking lot before the meeting. Do not enter the building until 6:45 PM. If you wish to chat before the meeting, please do so away from the entrance.
