February Surf Fishout
by Sam Bishop
February 6, Jim Hall and I tried the surf at the regular scheduled time, but it was too wild and wooly, so we quit after about ten minutes. The swells were not enormous, but the period between them was quite short, creating a condition too dangerous to handle, plus it churned up the surf so much that you would have to hit a fish on the head for him to see it. Winter conditions can make one day fishable, the next not.
SCFF ConFab 2010
by Chris Walters

Saturday, February 13th, SCFF members, family and friends gathered at Santa Cruz Gardens School for the annual ConFab, and it was indeed, con-fabulous! The weather was the best we've had in weeks, spirits were high, and everyone enjoyed food, instruction, demonstrations, bargains, conversation and the pleasure of one another's company.
Elaine Cook did yeoman duties instructing eager students in tying the "Dillon Attractor", and other flies.
Walt Robinson put on several excellent clinics covering basic casting, as well as casting for distance and accuracy. Troy Mayers provided rods and reels for casting practice. Kent Hull put on an excellent and well-attended knot clinic.
Robert Ketley gave a fascinating slide presentation on "Shooting Heads and Distance Casting", and then gave demonstrations in the field. Pat Steele provided audio/visual services.
A number of members brought items for sale or trade. Tim Loomis, John Cook, Mike DiCiano and Victor Inouye gave generously of their time and knowledge about equipment, casting in general, and spey casting in particular. And as is common in this club, lots of people helped out in many ways. Old and new members met and had fun together. In short, ConFab 2010 was well attended, informative, and a bunch of fun. Thanks to all who helped and all who attended!
