Renegade (attractor dry fly)

This fly has been around for decades. It's an effective attractor, easy to tie and easy to see.

Hook:TMC 100, Mustad 9485, sizes 6-18
Thread:Black 6-0, 8-0
Tag:Fine, flat gold tinsel
Rear Hackle:Browm, 1 1/4 hook gap
Body:Peacock herl
Forward Hackle:White, 1 1/2 to 2 X hook gap
Head:Black thread

1. Crimp barb.
2. Wrap thread on hook shank near hook bend.
3. Tie in piece of tinsel at rear of shank, wrap 1/3rd down the curve of the hook bend and back to the starting point. Tie off and cut excess.
4. Prepare stem and tie in at rear. Wrap thread forward 1/4 of shank, then wrap hackle forward 1/4 of shank so the barbules face forward. Tie off and cut excess.
5. Tie in peacock herl, wrap thread forward 1/2 of hook shank. Wrap herl forward to the same place, tie in, cut off excess.
6. Prepare stem and tie in. Wrap thread forward to one hook eye length behind hook eye. Wrap hackle forward to same point with barbules facing forward. Tie in and cut excess.
7. Wrap thread head, tie off and cut thread. Finish with head cement.
