Hot BUtt
submitted by Elaine Cook
This is an adult egg laying Caddis imitation, hence the bright pink butt as an egg sac. In the Rockies it is also tied with a bright yellow-green butt.

| Hook: | TMC 100, sizes 12-20 |
| Thread: | Black or Tan 8-0 |
| Egg Sac: | Fluorescent bright pink Antron |
| Hackle: | Grizzly saddle or neck |
| Body: | Peacock herl |
| Wings: | Light deer hair |
1. Crimp barb.
2. Attach thread behind eye and wrap 1/3 back on shank.
3. Lay strip of Antron on top of shank extending about 3/8" beyond rear of shank. Tie in place with thread wraps extending to rear of shank. Cut Antron in rear to length equal to 1/2 hook shank. Cut excess Antron in front.
4. Select hackle with barbs equal to hook gap. Prepare butt end of hackle by cutting off fuzzy end fibers, then cutting several barbs short along stem. Tie in cut barbs on top rear of shank, dull side toward you.
5. Select two or three barbs, pull off fragile tips. Make a loop in tying thread and using a hook tool, make chenille with herl. (Note: this reinforces herl and makes it stronger) Wrap thread forward to 1/3 back on shank. Wrap chenille forward to tie in. Tie off, cut excess.
6. Wrap hackle forward in only 3 - 4 wraps. Tie off, cut excess.
7. Cut deer hair fibers very close to hide in a clump about 1/4 the size of a pencil diameter. (Gauge to size of fly) Clean out underfur. Stack tips. Lay on top of shank with tips extending 1/2 shank length beyond rear of shank. Make one loose wrap around only hair, then a second wrap around both hair and shank and pull down snugly. Make several more snug wraps. Holding butt ends, cut them short at an angle 2 eye lengths long. Finish with several half hitches behind hook eye, cut thread. Using end of thumb nail, push down firmly on wing fibers behind thread wraps to splay deer hair fibers.
