Conservation Committee - June 2010 Catchy Releases
Submitted by Jim Tolonen
At its May meeting, the Board approved the conservation committee's recommendation for our donations this year.
Similar to last year, we focused on those groups in our local area, those where we could add value through additional volunteer efforts, and those other groups within California watersheds of significant interest to the membership.
As we had $4,000 dollars to allocate this year, compared to $3,000 last year, we added to our top three groups, kept the rest the same as last year, and added one new group (based on membership recommendation), this year.
The organizations we are supporting are:

| Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout Project* | $1,000 |
| Coastal Watershed Council* | 700 |
| California Trout | 300 |
| Eastern Sierra Land Trust | 100 |
| Friends of the River | 300 |
| California Sportfishing Protection Alliance | 300 |
| Sempervirens Fund | 100 |
| San Lorenzo HS Watershed Academy | 300 |
| Salmon and Trout Education Program (STEP)* | 600 |
| Friends of the Trinity River ** | 300 |
* = increase from last year
** = new organization this year
The Conservation Committee has lots of materials on these organizations and their volunteer and donation programs; so just ask if you would like more information.
Thanks again to all our membership for making this possible, and a special thank you from the organizations we support for the money and the volunteer efforts of the SCFF.
Next topic, Trout Unlimited's television program On the Rise airs on Sportsman Channel this spring and summer.

The show's 13 episodes will highlight places where TU is working on rivers and streams around the country. This season, the show will take you to Bristol Bay, Alaska, where a proposed open-pit gold and copper mine threatens the world's most prolific salmon fishery. On the opposite side of the country, the show visits the Delaware River--which proves to be as challenging for host Frank Smethurst as it is for the many anglers who regularly fish its waters. In Colorado, Frank visits the Animas River and is greatly rewarded for his efforts there. Other shows include winter steelhead fishing in Washington state, brook trout fishing in Maine and backcountry fishing in Wyoming.
Season 3 Shows:
1. Alaska West
2. Bristol Bay, Alaska 1
3. Bristol Bay, Alaska 2
4. The Animas River, CO
5. Long Island, NY
6. Bear River, ID
7. Pyramid Lake, NV
8. Lower Montain Fork, OK
9. Uncompaghre River, CO
10. Green River, UT
11 - 13. TBD
The show will air at the following times: Tuesdays at 11 pm; Wednesdays at 12:30 pm; Fridays at 8:30 am; Saturdays at 10 am, and Sundays at 2:30 am. (I know not the best times, but you could record them?)
Good fishing videos, as well as good conservation information.
