This is our club's 14th annual trip to the Roostercomb Ranch, owned and operated by Scott Wilkinson. This is a very privileged and special fishout permitted to our club members onto this private ranch nestled along the Orestimba River adjacent to Henry Coe State Park located in Morgan Hill, 22 miles off Hwy 152 with the entrance just 5 miles from the Casa De Fruta Restaurant. It offers everyone young and old a fun-filled weekend with fishing and boating in 9 bass ponds, excellent hiking, birding and photography on nearly 6,000 acres of wild country. The ponds are primarily fished by float tube or from the bank using poppers and woolly buggers.
Breakfasts and evening barbecues are coordinated by teams. Accommodations available are a ranch house of 1920 vintage and a cowboy bunk house, or if you prefer, your own tent or vehicle. (for more details please feel free to call me anytime).
Due to the varying rough and sometimes steep terrain, all vehicles driving in/out must be 4-WD! If you do not have a 4-WD vehicle, we can make arrangements with Scott for transportation in and out of the ranch, but it is more convenient for your personal flexibility once inside the property to have your own transportation.
The cost is $155 per adult fisher and non-fisher per fishout, no charge for children 12 yrs. and under. Non-fishers are always welcome. The specific sign up for this fishout is by phoning me Thursday, April 2, 7:00 PM. Each fishout is limited to 15 fishers and 6 non-fishers, total 21.
NOTE: You are only able to call in for yourself and your partner, and/or children. Cecilia Stipes - (831) 335-5727, 328 Capelli Dr., Felton, CA 95018.
Green River Fishout - July 12-18
Fishmaster: John Steele - (831) 476-0648
The Green River Fishout is schedule for mid July this year. Due to changes in river flow and weather over the past years, the blue wing olive hatch in the spring hasn't been great, so we're changing things up to take advantage of terrestrials.
This river is a tailwater of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir Dam, situated in the northeast corner of Utah. It carves its way through a spectacular red rock canyon, and is the home of a healthy number of large brown and rainbow trout. It is rare to catch one under 16 inches, and not uncommon to catch several over 20 inches. You can walk a well-maintained trail along the river and bank fish, and/or book a guide to drift the river. The Trout Creek Flies guides are all very competent, excellent teachers, and provide all your terminal tackle, plus a delicious riverside lunch.
The Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen group will be staying at Flaming Gorge Lodge. The fishmaster has reserved five double rooms, so if you want to stay with the group, make sure to sign up early. If you can't commit early, you could also try Red Canyon Lodge, (435) 889-3759. There are also several campgrounds in the area, if you are driving an RV and wish to camp.
If you plan to drive, (it's a day and a half's drive) call John Steele, at 476-0648. If you are going to fly from San Jose to Salt Lake City, then rent a vehicle, you should shop online for the best deal, as soon as possible, or consult your travel agent. Likewise, if you need more details, or want to sign up for this fishout, call John. A sign up sheet will be available at the club meeting.
NOTE: The state of Utah is taking over the issuance of licenses. They have their own computer for you to use at Trout Creek Flies fly shop to get them. There's also a phone number you can call, but the cost is an extra $2 since it requires a person to enter your data. The easiest way is to do it before you come on your own computer. The website is: www.wildlife.utah.gov. It is suggested that you print two copies and then you have one filed somewhere in case you lose one. If you have your license from a previous year, there is a customer number on it, which makes it simple to renew because all your info is already in the system and you don't have to give your SSN.

Rich Hughett will meet with those going prior to the trip to discuss which rods, reels and flies to bring, the various types of fish in the Loreto area and to answer questions. Interested? We need to book airline flights, hotel rooms and pangas as soon as possible. *For the best deal, check Southwest Airlines out of San Jose and Alaska Airlines from Los Angeles to Loreto.
