September Surf Fishout
By Fishmaster Sam Bishop
Writing this on Saturday, August 22: Yesterday at Manresa a friend of mine caught a 30 ", 15 lb. Striper using a spinning rod and Pencil Popper. The biggest Striper I have ever caught was in late August (17 lbs.) on a Clouser near there. So when you come out to join our September 5th Surf Fishout at Manresa State Beach, be sure your gear is fresh, your knots are tied correctly and you are prepared. Forget the 6 weight rods!
We meet at 0630 when there will be a receding high tide. I will have spare stripping baskets and perch flies. Bring your own Striper flies; one hook for perch, one for Stripers?
Questions? email or call me: Sam 274-4024 or 476-6451 firstname.lastname@example.org. Reservations not needed, just show up. I suggest be there early, as parking outside the State beach is very limited and you will have to park in "the neighborhood". Perch catching has not been what I would call "hot", but I have gotten one or two per hour plus a few more hits and misses every time out.
After the fishout that day, please join us at Watsonville Airport for Wings Over Watsonville, a fun family outing. Bring your kids or grandkids ages 8 - 18. Fellow pilots and I will take them flying for free. What a deal! More info is here: http://cityofwatsonville.org/municipal-airport/wings-over-watsonville-fly-in-2.
