New Deadline for March Newsletter
The deadline for submissions for the March Newsletter will be 7:00 PM, February 15th. This is because our Publisher/Web Master Pat Steele will be pursuing trophy bonefish in the Bahamas later in the month.

No Club Meeting in July
Since the July club meeting (July 1) would likely interfere with the July 4th holiday weekend plans for most members, the Board decided not to hold a club meeting in July. Historically, the July meeting has been the most poorly attended of the year, even when it didn't cross the holiday weekend. We think this is because most of our members are where they should be: away in some beautiful spot fly fishing.

Ernie's Closed on Mondays
We want to let the club members know that we will be closing on Mondays beginning Feb 2. We will be open Tuesdays through Saurdayst from 9 AM-5 PM. We're looking forward to having a few more hours to fish and etc. Thanks, Ernie and Diane

Slide Show Available on CD
This year's slide show is now available on a CD. The CD has the PowerPoint Slide Show, plus all of the individual pictures in an unformatted separate folder. The Slide Show and the pictures can be accessed by PCs or Macs. To run the Slide Show, you will need to have the PowerPoint program installed on your computer. We are charging $5 for each CD. Proceeds will go into the Club's general fund.

Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout Project Alert
There are steelhead in Scott Creek that have been instrumented with small blue temperature loggers. If you catch a fish with a logger, do the following: 1) snip off the logger and immediately release the fish back into Scott Creek; 2) if you cannot snip off the logger, release the fish with the logger back into Scott Creek. Proper handling of the fish should be followed: try to avoid removing the fish from the water, underwater unhooking and logger removal is preferred; do not squeeze the fish or touch its eyes or gills. Do not keep the fish. The logger can be removed by snipping the two thin plastic anchors that hold it in place. Do not expose the logger to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Please call NOAA Fisheries (831) 420-3958 to arrange for tag return and your reward.

Local Rockfish Fishout
Harry Petrakis is organizing a fishout on some our local reefs for September 11, 2004. The main target will be olive and blue rockfish, which readily go for a well-presented fly, and are a lot of fun to catch. There is also the chance of hooking into a 40 pound white sea bass or a good-sized halibut, or who knows what kind of monster. Harry needs to know who has a suitable boat for near shore ocean fishing, and how many people he or she can accommodate on their boat. Give him a call at 425-1223.
