Pyramid Lake Fishout
Fishmaster: Jim Hall - 786-8983

It's time to start thinking about Pyramid Lake again. This is the first fishout of the year, and is always a lot of fun. The fishing has gotten better every year, with bigger fish and bigger numbers.
The fishout will be March 14th through March 20th. You need to call Crosby Lodge at 1-702-476-0400 to reserve your cabin. You will be on your own for food so plan on cooking your meals. Call ASAP! Plan to dress for cold or warm weather, conditions are variable and change rapidly, as anyone who has been on this fishout can tell you.
Equipment: 7, 8, or 9 weight rods with hi-speed, hi-D shooting heads (but don't forget the floating and intermediate sink lines), you never know. Also, step-ladder, rain coat, float tube, waders and fins.
Flies: Woolly worms in black, white, purple, olive, or any color you feel like trying (and don't forget the beetle fly).
How to get there: Take Hwy 80 to Reno-Sparks, take the Pyramid Blvd. off ramp and go north about 35 miles. Crosby Lodge is at Suttcliff, near the Ranger Station.
If you have any questions, you can call Jim at 786-8983, or John Steele at 476-0648. We will be glad to help. Hope to see you there.
Jim will be demonstrating how to put together a deluxe "Pyramid Lake Fishing Ladder" at the Confab on February 14th.
Los Padres Reservoir Fishout
Fishmaster: Tim Loomis Ð 426-9248

This fishout is a great way to celebrate the trout season opener on April 24th and 25th.
Like any early morning fishing, wear warm, wicking clothing. Layering polypro is best. Check the weather forecast the night prior to see if raingear will be needed.
These are the essentials:
1) Float tube or lightweight pontoon.
2) A means of transporting the above to the reservoir; either carry straps for the float tube or a wheeled cart of some type to haul in the pontoon.
3) A way to safely lock up your cart at the launch site (I had mine "borrowed" last year and luckily left back in the parking lot). I will go into more detail if you call me.
4) Waders with warm long underwear.
5) Good fins that you are used to. The winds kick up just before noon and can really gust. This is not the place to break in new fins!
6) A 5# rod is plenty. Length is your call but longer is better.
7) Both floating and sink tip line. I bring along 2-3 different lengths of lead core to search various depths.
8) Flies - both dry and wet: 14-18 size elk hair caddis; same for gnats and mosquito patterns; beadhead woolybuggers in olive or black same sizes as above. I am also going to play around with Betty Rentz's Lowberg and Hornberg patterns. Just bring any flies that you usually use on a still water fishery!
9) Wear a coastguard approved floatation devise.
10) Wear a hat, polorized sunglasses and lots of sunscreen/lip balm.
11) Bottles of water
12) Make a small lunch w/energy bars to supplement
13) Two-way radios
I will gladly arrange for a meeting place the morning of the trip. The drive from Santa Cruz to the Reservoir takes about 1 1/2 hours. It's a good 1/2 to 3/4 mile hike from the parking lot to the reservoir with a couple of hills in between to test your fitness. Plenty of wildflowers along the way for your visual enjoyment so remember to pack a camera. Oh, and one other thing...take it from me and crimp your hooks. The fish and game warden while friendly, has a job to do.

The Green River trip is set for May 8th through the 15th. We will be staying at the Trout Creek Lodge this year. It's in Dutch John, closer to the river. We have room for three more people at the lodge, so if you are interested, give me a call. It's a great place to learn because the fish and the responses to your fly are easy to see. The weather can be changeable, but it's always a good week. Give me a call at 476-0648, for information and to sign up to go. There are alternate places to stay as well, if more than three people want to go, such as Red Canyon Lodge and Flaming Gorge Lodge.
If you are planning to go on the train, call Elaine (688-1561) right away. We need to make train and car rental reservations as a group.

This is a "ladies only" fishout designed to bring the women and young ladies in the club together to share experiences and knowledge, and to enjoy camaraderie. Per person cost is based on the sign-up total. Currently I have two cabins on hold for the four days. One of the cabins can sleep 12, or maybe more. Call Cecilia for more details at 335-5727.
