Hook Up With A Buddy and Go Fishing

Roostercomb Ranch
The bass fishout to Roostercomb Ranch is slated for April 30 - May 2. The general location of this ranch is 20 miles inland from Casa de Fruta off Highway 152, adjacent to Henry Coe State Park. We have exclusive use of 9 ponds and 2 houses on this 5,800-acre ranch, and the pleasure of enjoying the beautiful hills and open country for hiking and photography. The bass ponds can be fished either from shore or in float tubes, small boats or canoes. Limited hunting for ground squirrels is permitted using 22-caliber rimfire rifles only. Four-wheel carpooling is a MUST. Due to limited sleeping arrangements, I can take up to 20 people: maximum total 15 fishers and up to 5 non-fishers. Weekend cost is $135 per adult and $85 per youngster (10-15 yrs. only). Call-in date to sign up is Wednesday, April 7 @ 7:00 p.m. (831) 335-5727. If you are a partnered couple, one call is okay; otherwise each person must call in. Thanks, Cecilia Stipes
Upper Klamath Lake
I've been checking into a resort for rent at Rocky Point on the scenic shores of the Upper Klamath Lake in Southern Oregon. Recently remodeled, the resort boasts a 5000 square foot lodge with 7 bedrooms and sleeps 14, plus two 650 square foot cabins that sleep 4 each. It is nicely appointed and has a great kitchen and large well furnished living room to gather in. The entire resort rents for $500 per day.
The lodge is half an hour from the Williamson River and 30 miles from Klamath Falls. Other close venues would be the Rogue River Canyon, Klamath River near Keno, Crater Lake Natl. Park, Sky Lakes Natlional Wilderness and the Wood River (dry flies). Nearly ten miles of canoe and kayak trails lace waterways through the National Wildlife Refuge. Drift trips on the Williamson can be arranged and, and oh yes, there are golf courses nearby.
Prime time is July (hex hatch) and that is when I am planning to organize the trip. The weather can be hot at this time of the year but the lodge is air-conditioned, and besides, with so many other places nearby to go and cool off, no worries.
There are some of the biggest trout in the nation in the Williamson River. 3 to 6 pound fish are common and 8 to 10 pounders plentiful with 20 pounders being hooked but seldom landed...hey I'm just repeating what the owner of the Rocky Point Lodge told me. Fish are literally right outside the front door...a nice strain of native rainbows 2 to six pounds.
The lodge is 442 miles from Santa Cruz and approximately 7 hours travel time by car. Call me at 425-1223 if you are interested. I have pictures if you want to see what it looks like. - Harry Petrakis
