Come share in the enjoyment of camaraderie and alpine fishing with the women from the club. Accommodations allow room for 19 people to sleep comfortably. The dome cabin is located close to the White Pines Sport Shop in the Arnold shopping center for any last-minute supplies. Please contact me if you are interested in joining the fun!

O'Connell-Bourdet Bass Fishout
Saturday, June 12
Fishmaster: Cecilia Stipes (831) 335-5727

Don't miss this chance to fish for bass on the 18,000-acre ranch off Highway 152. We are lucky to again have the opportunity to fish these private waters, thanks to Scott Wilkinson, friend to Mrs. Bourdet. The bass are plentiful in the two bass ponds, which we will be fishing on this one-day fishout. We'll be traveling over some steep hillsides that require us to use 4-WD. The views from the top are wonderful. Call me Wednesday evening 7 p.m., June 2 to sign up. There is room for only ten people.

Seminar on Rules and Rigging for IGFA Fly Fishing World Records
Wednesday, September 8th
Fishmaster: Harry Petrakis 425-1223

There are presently a number of world records which could easily be surpassed while fly fishing on the Rockfish Fishout. Here are some examples:

* Lingcod - the MenÕs 2 and 4 pound-test classes are vacant. The other classes are taken with 26-36 pound fish (unlikely to be beaten in Monterey Bay on the fly). The Ladies' 2 to 12 pound-test classes are vacant; in the 20 pound-test class, the record is held by a 16 lb. 9 oz. fish. This record could easily be beaten in Monterey Bay.
* Halibut - Men's 12 pound-test is held by a 17 lb, fish; the 16 and 20 pound-test classes are held with fish under 13 lbs! For the Ladies, all line class records are vacant (Ladies, all you have to do is catch a halibut and it's a world record). The Men's 8 and 12 pound-test records were caught in Capitola.
* White Sea Bass - In the Ladies' Division, all tippet classes from 2 to 20 pound-test are vacant, as are the Men's 2 to 6 pound-test classes. Also for the men, a 10 lb. fish will take the 8 pound-test record, and a 13 lb. fish will take the 12 pound-test class. The record in the 20 pound-test category is only 15 lbs. 8 oz.
* Thresher Shark - All line classes in Men's and Ladies' divisions are vacant.

With all of these opportunities, it would be a shame miss out on holding a world record, just because you didn't know the rules for rigging or verifying your catch. Harry will go over what is needed to submit your catch for world record status. Time and place will be announced in the August and September newsletters.

Rockfish and Deep Flyline Jiging Fishout, and BBQ-Swapmeet
Fishmaster: Harry Petrakis 425-1223

WHEN: September 11, 2004. Launch at 6:30 AM. Fish until noon. Gather at the park for the barbecue at 2:00 PM.
WHERE: Either Capitola or Santa Cruz pier, depending on which is fishing best, where we will rent skiffs. The barbecue will be at Harvey West Park with fire lighting at 3:00pm. It will go until dusk. Bring a lawn chair and something to cook on the BBQ, and a dish to share.
COST: $35.00 per person. This covers boat rentals, bait for chum and fuel costs, the site for the picnic, refreshments and snacks and some tackle (extra leadcore) and flies. Any leftover proceeds will be deposited into the club's general account.
PRIZES: Prizes will be awarded at the BBQ for the biggest, smallest fish.

The rental skiffs are very seaworthy and dependable. They are a good fishing platform and can hold plenty of coolers, boxes, rods and lunches. They cruise at 8 to 12 MPH depending on if you get a fast one or not. It will take around 20 minutes or less to get to the fishing spots. There will be two fishers to a boat. We will fish in pairs of boats with at least one of the two boats having (and someone on board knowing how to operate) a marine radio, GPS and fish finder/depth meter. I will be fishing from a skiff.
The on-the-water portion will be subject to cancellation if the conditions are too rough in which case the picnic-BBQ-swap meet will start at noon. In case anyone is interested in trying, there are currently a number of achievable world records for local species. More details on these records will follow in the August newsletter.
EQUIPMENT: 5-8 weight intermediate to fast sink shooting head or full length line, with 5 to 7 foot leader for suspended fish. For deeper reefs use 6 to 12 weight leadcore/amnesia rigs. If all of this is confusing rest assured that there will be plenty of help to set you up with the right equipment, well ahead of time. Just give me a call. We will have extra leadcore for everyone in case you get snagged. A bleach bottle with 90 feet of line and a 6oz sinker to mark your hot spot so you can drift over it again and again.
FLIES: Brown over white clousers sizes 8 to 2/0, or the flash clouser featured as the Fly of the Month in the October, 2003 newsletter.(see back issues at the bottom left of the table of contents of our web page)
Call Harry at 425-1223 if you have any questions or suggestions.
