Ben Taylor and Jim Novak are totally obsessed with fly fishing in the surf of Monterey Bay and they want you to experience this challenging fishery too! The beaches we fish are uncrowded and beautiful. Rarely do you ever see other anglers. This fishing takes very little specialized gear (you probably have most of the equipment already) and it is great exercise. The skills you learn in the surf will drastically improve the rest of your fly fishing game. Just hop in the car and drive to the closest beach and go for it!
We hit the beach at first light and we fish till mid day. We will show you how to read the water and to find productive spots in this ever changing environment and do so safely. As the tides change during the day, we may move around trying several different beaches. Our target species will be perch (barred, redtail and walleye), striped bass and seasonal halibut. Prime times run from May through September.
