Lefty's Deceiver (bait fish version)
by Elaine Cook
Getting ready to do the bay fishout with Harry? Here's one of the patterns that Harry is recommending.

Hook: Mustad 34007 (this is a stainless steel hook which resists corrosion from the salt water).
Size 1/0 to 3/0 (Harry prefers 2/0).
Thread: White 3/0 Monocord
Tail: Six white saddle hackles (soft)
Flash: Flashabou
Body: Silver Mylar
Collar: White bucktail
Overbody: Light green or light blue bucktail
Topping: Peacock herl
Head: Tying thread
1. Crimp barb.
2. Attach behind hook eye and wrap to rear of shank covering shank.
3. Tie in mylar with gold side up. Wrap thread forward to 1/3 of shank length from eye.
4. Wrap mylar forward to hanging thread so that silver side is exposed in overlapping wraps.
5. Select 3 pairs of matched hackles equal to 1 1/2 time length of hook.
6. Place 3 hackles on each side of shank, tips to rear and down and outward. Start feathers slightly upward as they leave the shank (see diagram). Tie in place.
7. Cut 3 lengths of flashabou 3 times the length of the hook. Tie in center of flashabou on top of shank, bend in half so that tips extend to rear and thread wrap in place forcing flashabou to sides of shank.
8. Tie in medium bunch of white bucktail, twice the length of the hook, as a collar (around the entire shank).
9. Tie in small bunch of bucktail almost as long as tail, on top of shank.
10. Tie in about 10 strands of peacock herl, the length of above bucktail, on top of shank.
11. Tie thread head, cut thread, apply drop of Zap-A-Gap or similar cement.
