Bear Barbie
By Elaine Cook
You must admit that one would never expect to catch a trout in a pristine mountain lake with a fly that looks like this! Moreover, who would ever think of tying such a thing? As it turns out, with the leadership of Richard Kline, the Bear Valley fishout participants succeeded in having many, many hook-ups.

Hook: TMC 200R
Thread: Black, 8/0
Tail: Bright pink marabou
Hackle: Strung Chinese hackle Ð cinnamon color
Head: Large gold bead - use largest bead that can be held on hook by eye
1. Crimp barb.
2. Thread bead onto hook (small side of hole first) up to eye.
3. Attach thread to rear of shank.
4. Tie in very large clump of marabou so that it is twice the hook length, tips extending to rear of shank.
5. Tie in stem of hackle, dull side toward you.
6. Wrap thread forward covering shank.
7. Wrap hackle forward in closer and closer wraps so that they make a very fuzzy forward shank.
8. Tie off behind bead.
