Ice Cream Cone

Winter is a good time to fish midge larvae and pupae. They can be suspended under an indicator or trailing another fly. Give this one a try in moving or still water.

Hook: TMC 200R sizes 10-16
Bead: 1/8 White
Thread: Black 6/0
Rib: Regular copper wire
Body: Black or brown Super Floss
Thorax: Super Floss and black thread

1. Crimp barb.
2. Thread bead on hook up to eye.
3. Attach thread behind bead.
4. Lay wire on hook shank butting up against bead. Wrap thread over wire from behind bead to 1/3 way around bend of hook, leaving remaining wire extending beyond rear of hook.
5. Lay strand of floss on hook shank butting up against bead. Wrap thread forward to bead.
6. Wrap floss forward covering shank.
7. Make several wraps of floss behind bead to build up thorax. Tie off, cut excess.
8. Spiral wire forward to thorax. Make 2-3 wraps on top of one another. Twist wire to break off excess.
9. Wrap thread to make a tapered thorax up to half way point on bead. Whip finish behind thorax. Apply head cement or Super Glue or Krazy Glue to body and thorax.
