February 12th - Big Sur Coastal Creeks
Missed the confab and fished the San Carpaferro and Arroya De La Cruz creeks north of San Simeon in the lower stretches of the Big Sur coast with friend Rick Sauer. Both creeks were running full both out of the ocean and down off the Santa Lucia mountains. Water was cold and crystal clear. The San Carpaferro was 10-15ft deep in the channel down near the beach. It was absolutely breathtaking to have the whole stretch of the beach as far as I could see to myself. Only problem...no fish! - Tim Loomis
January 11th - Klamath River
Fished the Klamath River out of Hornbrook with Fly Shop guide Chris Parsons. Enjoyed the most productive day of steelhead fishing of my life. We landed close to 25 steelies with the average weight around 3.5lbs. I only counted fish over 20" as steelhead. Chris estimated that the numbers could have been much higher (around 75) if I could have got a hook set on all the hits. My indicator was under water most of the day. Best nymph combination was a spawn egg pattern as the bottom fly with a chartreuse copper john on top. We had the river all to ourselves as most bay area fishermen were zeroing in on the Trinity. What a day! - Tim Loomis
