Confab 2005
by Joe Bigas

The night before the Confab I was revisiting my plans to build an ark. Thankfully Saturday dawned bright and sunny. Everyone who attended will agree it was a tremendous success. When I arrived at 9:15 AM, there were five or six tables lined up end to end. The fly tying vises and their attending lights looked like planes lined up waiting to take off at SFO during 8:00 AM rush hour.
Walt Robinson and Brian Bommorito were out back setting up the casting course and giving lessons. I must confess I had never seen a backward steeple cast, but Walt made it look easy.
At noon we fired up the huge Wolf ovens and packed them with wonderful hot dishes. It took only 22 minutes for Dick Stipes' Elk stew to disappear. There were numerous salads and garlic toastÉ Sufficient to say we had enough food and then some.
Sam Bishop won the Big Dawg casting award. We thought it was graceful for Kathy Powers to retire and give someone else a chance until we found her tied up under the picnic table. Casey Mathew won the junior division.
Thanks to all who stayed late to help clean up, especially Mike White, our Facilities Coordinator. See you next year.
