The question posed in last month's column was: Will he catch any fish at Pyramid Lake? The answer is yes. But, like all things to do with fishing, there is a story.

I would like to dedicate this column to all beginning and intermediate fishermen in the club. One's skill is based on time on the water and one's determination to improve, not on years one has fished. This makes me an intermediate. As I was standing on my ladder hour after hour, thoughts began to arise. Why do I do this? I can't get skunked today or the guys will make fun of me at dinner tonight. I guess you say I was almost praying to the fishing gods when I saw my indicator dip below the water. I knew I had a large fish on, but I didn't find out until later that I had one of the largest fish ever caught on the lake by anyone in the club. I had never landed such a fish. Each time I was about to make a mistake I could hear the voice of someone in the club or maybe one of our speakers telling me what to do. The fish was an old one covered with scars. We quickly took a photo and released it. What a feeling to watch it swim slowly back to its home deep in the middle of the lake.
The point is if this can happen to me it surely can happen to you. So, when the fishing is a little slow, keep the faith. Tight lines. - Joe
