Opening Day
By Joe Bigas

Well, the opening of trout season is here again. In the blink of an eye I can drift back 48 years to a little lake named "Ki" somewhere north of Seattle. I am playing poker with my high school buddy, Spike, at his parent's summer cabin. We get to stay up all night. At 4 AM, we will all wander down to the lake and start casting worms off the bank. At dawn we will switch to salmon eggs. Spike's dad and his friends will be on the dock and because of this always get more fish than we do. The fact that no one had ever taught us to fish might have had something to do with this. Of course, we were boys and boys already know how to fish at birth. Right? Tight lines. - Joe
