* You CAN Make a Difference!
In recent days, Governor Schwarzenegger signed AB 7 into law -- the biggest victory for state management of wild and native trout since the establishment of the Wild Trout Program in 1972. AB 7 will triple funding, add personnel, enhance enforcement programs, and improve hatchery management, among many other critical benefits.
CalTrout members sent hundreds of emails to Governor Schwarzenegger, encouraging him to sign AB 7. And according to sources in Sacramento, these personal lobbying efforts likely made the difference!
At the end of September the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill written by Chairman Richard Pombo (R-CA) that would critically weaken the landmark Endangered Species Act. Under the guise of "reforming" the Act, Chairman Pombo's bill would set back efforts to protect threatened species by decades.
Among many other disastrous provisions, the Pombo bill would completely repeal protections for endangered species critical habitat, remove protections for species listed as "threatened" under the law, and allow political appointees -- such as Secretary of Interior Gale Norton -- instead of scientists, to determine what constitutes the best available science.
It's up to us to lead the fight and defeat this terrible legislation on the floor of the U.S. Senate. CalTrout asks for your help to defeat the Pombo bill in the Senate. Contact www.caltrout.org to see how your contributions can help. (adapted from a membership e-mail of October 25th)

* Annual Slide Show
by Dougald Scott

Don't forget the program for our regular January meeting (1/5/06) is the Annual Slide Show. This program features pictures taken by club members at club events and fishouts. We also like to see pictures from club members' fishing trips that are not club fishouts. Many members have already submitted pictures, but we still need more.
If you have pictures taken on club fishouts, or your own fishing trips that you would like to submit, send them to me, Dougald Scott. The presentation will be in digital format. If your pictures are from a digital camera, attach them to an e-mail, or save them on a CD. If they are prints or slides, mail them to me and I will scan them into digital format and return the prints or slides to you. My email is doscott@cruzio.com. Don't be shy, share your pictures with the club. - Dougald Scott
